“During the multiple and extended Covid lockdowns which were happening all over the world, musicians were forced to find other ways to make music. I began to study new instruments, and fed my passion for soundtracks by learning how to compose film music.” - Rusanda Panfili on what was one of the catalysts behind the creation of “Andara 1980”.
The album is based on the characters of Elvira and Kelan, and their quest to find “The Ghost Orchid”, a rare flower which may grant the power of immortality to its beholder. “I grew up watching sci-fi movies and fantasising about parallel universes, or other advanced civilisations. Since I was more or less stuck in my home-studio, I had the chance to put my fundamentally creative side to work, and produce a body of work which represents me as an artist”, Rusanda Panfili.
“Andara 1980” was recorded entirely in her home studio, using her Italian classical violin, the Moog One and Deckard’s Dream analog synthesisers, as well as various sound design tools (granular to modular synths), voices, percussions, the Soma Dvina (electronic string instrument), and various native flutes.
“Sound engineer and music producer Johannes Winkler din an amazing job at creating a multi-dimensional listening experience for Andara 1980. Therefore, the album is available in Dolby Atmos and with Head-Tracking Technology on Apple Music”, mentions Rusanda on the mixing and recording techniques used for “Andara 1980”.
The sound of the album is enriched by the collaboration with Teodora Miteva (violoncello), and Stephan Maass (percussion).
“Andara 1980” is available on all major digital platforms, and as a limited edition LP.
